Neodymium magnets have been widely used in high performance stepper, DC, servo, and linear motors, actuators, loudspeakers, headphones, holding systems, relays, magnetic imaging for medical and geophysical applications, etc..
It is the most powerful permanent magnetic materials commercially available. Neodymium magnets possesses high energy ranging from 8 MGOe to 50MGOe. NdFeB magnets also have good coercive force and with a maximum working temperature up to 300 degrees F. Edgetech Industries, Magnetics Division is continually working on increasing the MGO. The range in strength is relative to the size and shape of the material being used due to limits in the manufacturing process.
NdFeB Magnets are available in sintered as well as bonded forms.
-Bonded NdFeB is generally low in properties due to the special process of gluing the powder in a mold. Although bonded magnets don’t possess magnetic properties as advanced as sintered magnets. They can be made in shapes and sizes which are difficult to achieve with sintering. It is isotropic and can be magnetized in any direction, and with multiple poles.
-Sintered NdFeB parts produce the highest magnetic properties. It usually needs some finishing operations in order to hold close mechanical tolerances. Sintered NdFeB is anisotropic, and can only be magnetized in the orientation direction. Sintered rare earth magnets are manufactured by PM (powder metallurgical) process which involves the sintering of powder compacts under vacuum. Magnets can be produced in large blocks for subsequent processing, or tailor-made components by die pressing. Coatings may be applied depending on the expected environment.
